I’m speaking of bedrooms. My room got a little bit jealous of all the attention Em’s room had been getting. When we moved in, I found a 24 piece Martha set on ebay for less than $50 (with the shipping). It was pretty, and really well done for an entire room in a bag. I tweaked the pieces to make them work for me…turned the bedskirt into a window treatment, added in my own pillows to break things up a bit…but it never really did it for me. I decided that after 2 years, I had gotten my money’s worth. I have wanted to use blues as accents in my room (shocking, I know)…the demise of one of my ‘sea glass’ lamps prompted my Master Makeover. I brought the surviving lamp to my room, hoping to keep it safe…glass lamp + kids + easily bumped table = short life of glass lamp. At least we have carpet in here, so if it hits the floor it is less likely to shatter. Those lamps really tied everything together in the living room, I was really sad when the one, after MANY trips to the floor, finally gave up and shattered into a gazillion pieces. Moving on…I have had this fabric for a while, I covered an heirloom rocker with it. I never made sofa cushions with that fabric, so it has found a new purpose in my bedroom.
There was plenty for my window treatment. I cut this in half down the middle, I wanted the stripes vertical, and hemmed the cut edge. I did a 2-inch hem. I had DH remove the existing window treatment so I could reuse the framework. He helped me get everything straight and we started stapling the fabric to the frame. In a few minutes, it was ready to go back up!
Those little pleats are held in place with safety pins. I was really pleased, and it really was a quick project. The sheer panels are from the ‘room in a bag’, I like them and I had altered them to fit this window. Here is a close-up of the stripe…
I found some wonderfully soft sheets in nearly the same shade of blue from the stripe…SCORE! In my head I had envisioned white and cream for the bedding to go along with the new sheets. I was thinking of a beautiful ruched white comforter, like the Hadley from PB…lovely. I even found a knock-off that was completely affordable, I ordered it…but DH was not digging it. Sometimes I wish he was not so opinionated about such things. I took it back. I was digging through some stuff, and came across my old cream colored matelasse shams…then it clicked, I have a coverlet that matches those! The scalloped edging and floral design adds a bit of femininity. I decided I would look for a plain white comforter…I was obsessed with combining cream and white together. I may regret the white if I can’t keep my kids off of it. They seem to think that our bed is the indoor jungle gym…
So here is my bed, made over…sans kids perched up top…
And a close up of the mixture of colors…
What are your thoughts? Are the cream and white a decor ‘Do’ or a ‘Don’t’? I won’t sob in the corner if you don’t like my choices ;).
Today’s secret revealed…this make over cost just over $100, for the sheets and the comforter…not bad considering the quality of those items (Marshall’s!!!), our bed is a King. I feel like I have a whole new room now!
Whoa! This blog looks just like my old one! It’s on a completely different topic but it has prettymuch the same layout and design. Excellent choice of colors!
